THE CHRONICLE OF CZECHOSLOVAKIA

Mechatronic book with video-mapping – 10 minute loop

Registered and copyrighted technological concept

The book is a mechanical pop up book which automatically flips pages, onto which video-mapping is projected. The projection comes alive thanks to the 3D paper sets, pages are turned, the story progresses, the whole thing expressing itself like an apparition and the audience can not take their eyes off of it.

The book is placed behind the safety glass of a display cabinet stylized in the shape of a Czech chapel.

This mechatronical book was created to tell the history of Czechoslovakia from 1918 to 1993 in just 10 minutes. Each and every double page, an essential moment of history of our independent country. The authenticity and impact of every individual scene is supported by archive material such as photographs and original radio-broadcasts. Commentary can be selected in either Czech or English language.

At the end of the projection, the book’s pages are turned back to the beginning – running in an endless loop. As they say: “Those who do not learn from the past, are destined to repeat it.”
